“ATACP Accredited Foundation Programme in Aquatic Therapy”
(Taught Element)
This is the two day accredited taught element of the Post Graduate ATACP accredited Foundation Programme in Aquatic Therapy. The aim is “To equip a physiotherapist with the knowledge and clinical reasoning skills necessary to work safely and unsupervised in a pool.”

A supervision and rescue qualification required by therapists, teachers, educational and support staff working poolside or in water where they will not be required to swim, to perform a rescue (e.g. hydrotherapy or shallow pools less than 1.3 metres deep)

Cost: £100 plus VAT includes examination, qualification and manual
Prerequisites
To enter onto the course candidates must be able to:
wade in standing depth water swiftly and confidently
regain their feet from a face-down and face-up floating position
climb out of the pool unaided
To gain the RLSS ATSPRA qualification (valid for 2 years) candidates must:
be aged 16 years or older at the time of the assessment
Course Content:
Section 1 – The Teacher/Therapist, Risk Assessment, and Pool Safety
Course Duration : 6 Hours plus 1 hour assessment with external examiner
Assessment for the ATSPRA takes place at the end of the course. It determines your knowledge and understanding of the principles of working in a shallow water pool and assesses your ability to apply the skills and knowledge in a work-related environment.
The assessment is split into two sections:
Practical pool assessment
Theory Assessment – verbal question and answer session with the assessor
This course can also be integrated with an Emergency First Aid at Work Level 2 Qualification and AED which is being held on Thursday 24th November 2022
To provide paediatric physiotherapists with the theoretical knowledge & advanced clinical skills to design, implement and evaluate safe, effective aquatic physiotherapy treatment in the management of paediatric and young people’s conditions and syndromes using Aquaepps® and advanced paediatric aquatic physiotherapy techniques

To provide physiotherapists with the theoretical knowledge & clinical skills to design, implement and evaluate safe, effective aquatic therapy treatment in the management of paediatric neurological conditions using Aquaepps® techniques, neurodevelopmental and physical principles of movement in water
